Well poke my eyes out with a spork, things just couldn’t get any more bizarre unless a real zombie apocalypse broke out while we were trying to get this demo released.
Not content with giving us more PayPal troubles, resulting in us being unable to take new pre-orders for the foreseeable future (new plan available here), the latest bit of madness to occur is Man Blows Self Up in Car, Hartlepool Evacuated. Not that we knew that was happening at the time, of course. The policemen who had let themselves into our flat and were currently looming over our beds were close-lipped and just told us we needed to get out “for our own safety”. So believing this was just some small thing that’d get cleared up in an hour or so, off we popped and, upon arriving outside, we were greeted by a scene reminiscent of the opening of “28 Days Later”. It was a ghost-town, quiet, eerie, with police tape everywhere. Oh dear.
So we did what any British people would do, and headed for the nearest pub and, through news updates on BBC News 24, discovered that not only was the local hospital on “high alert” but that it was unlikely we would be getting back to the flat to work any time in the next day or so. On top of that, it was sounding alarmingly like our entire building could explode at any minute. Good job Nick had the presence of mind while half-asleep to grab his laptop and, therefore, the entire PZ code-base.
So, anyway, back we are now after everything got sorted out but set back by another couple of days. We’re in the process of trying to get in touch with PayPal to sort out getting the ability to take pre-orders again. Until we can, there’s just no way (as we hope you can understand) that we can afford to release the demo publicly – since each download costs us money which without being able to take new orders, we’d have no way to fund.
We will, however, release the demo to those who have already pre-ordered. If you haven’t yet and are eager to play, well we will still be opening up the demo for limited testing spots so you can always sign up for that and, if you’re lucky, be one of those picked.
Note: Testing sign-up is now closed. Sorry
We’re really sorry about all of this – we are, at least, slowly amassing the World’s most ridiculous development story ever. But to be honest, we’d rather it had all gone differently.

no need to be sorry. im just glad you guys are ok
take care. PROJECT ZOMBOID FOREVEA

Ahh, shit man! Trouble is always around the corner, eh? Hope you´ll do okey, because I really would like to play this game. AND DON´T HURRY ABOUT IT! Take all the time you need. Time is require for projects like this one. I mean, good stuff don´t just appear from thin air every second you know. You guys are doing a great job keeping it alive. Some people would give up pretty soon if all that trouble would happen to them.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
why can’t you just upload the demo as a torrent? It will benefit all of us
The purpose of the demo is to attract pre-orders. If we are unable to take pre-orders, then all releasing the demo does is waste a whole bunch of exposure at a time when we are unable to gain from it.
Since the money we hope to get from the demo release will be used directly to fund the updates, we hope those who have already pre-ordered can see the benefits to the game of waiting.
It’s not ideal but at the very least, everybody who has pre-ordered will get the demo as well as a selected number of people who haven’t for testing purposes.

ridiculous?
This is the most Badass and epic development of a game i ever see ulti now.
gives up a film it all.
“ They want to make a game!
But anti-zombie fags not want to know!
They will use their contacts to prevent this happen
Indies Developers Indies Of Doom, The ulltimate developers VS the Anti Zombies fags’!’
But seriously now: 3
I hope you can make this game, I dreamed of a game like this be created.
What can I survive the zombies, killing zombies, cooking food (*__*), have a depression, cook more food, doing things that make a zombie apocalispse.
And remember to take a break an hour, you have been through a lot so far.
PS: Sorry for the bad English :3
Wait. Now I am really scared. All your code is only on that laptop? Do you make backups? Please….please don’t make things worse for yourself.
Heh, no, we had backups. Just if the worst had happened, we had a laptop with everything on it with us so we could have set up development somewhere else if need be.
i have never seen any one with the luck of you guys lol. glad im following you guys while i infinitely would prefer the game. i find your adventures in making very amusing. sorry that im a bit sadistic lol i hope you guys get to the finish line and will be following you guys every step of the way. good luck
Hey guys, been following the forums and stuff for awhile, and while it sucks we wont get the demo, it must suck a lot more for you guys to not be able to release one. I mean at worst we just have 1 less game to play for a bit, but for you guys this is your career that will feed you. Anyway, all the best!
Thanks for all the good wishes. And don’t forget, if you haven’t pre-ordered but want to get some demo-action, we have some testing spots available.
So I pre-ordered and ‘donated’ money. Where is ze game?
Countdown to taster demo launch is here:

Perhaps after making this game you guys should write a book, or at least a guide on how to start your very own indie digital game company.
I’m just curious though, what if the unthinkable happens and the project fails? God knows morale is important in any kind of business, and that “shit” is always prone to happening. That being said, what will happen to the pre-order money you guys probably already spent in the making of this game?
Good luck, I know how starting an indie company can be hard, but try not to let your spirits down folks… Easier said than done though hahahahaha!
Though you do realize that as soon as you give people that demo, even if not publicly, it will spread to others and more than likely be up for torrent or download somewhere. It happened to Minecraft. It happened to Terraria. It is happening with Space Pirates and Zombies.
Might not be such a bad thing though. After all, exposure is a good thing. Minecraft can attest to that.
Just toss a torrent out there and get working on sorting the ridiculous money thing out.
That’s actually a very valid marketing strategy.
Of course some people won’t buy the game at all and play it with a cracked version, but it sure as hell is gonna raise the product’s recognition.
Hey there
I am really interested in this game.
I hope it certainly gets the exposure it needs to get really popular. It looks really great.
What I’ve noticed with indie games such as minecraft is that they’re “chill” of sorts with pirated versions of their game. It could add much more revenue as the game develops.
Also don’t forget. The people that paid for such a game get access to the latest versions first AND multiplayer capabilities. Where the pirates have to put up with bugs and only playing single player.
You guys could treat it as such when it comes to finally adding multiplayer.
This game would be REALLY interesting when it comes to such a time.
I will be following the development of this game with a very close eye
Keep up the good work fellow British friends
Why does each download cost you money? I have a website with an arcade to download games from, and that’s never costed any money, I rarely have visitors going there, but surely, there must be some reason it doesn’t cost me money.
Anyway, I will be watching Project Zomboid with close interest. I’m very big on PC gaming and with all these recent PC releases, i’ve been spending my money like hell, why shouldn’t I buy Project Zomboid? It looks as good as minecraft.
I like this post, enjoyed this one thank you for posting. “The universe is not hostile, nor yet is it unfriendly. It is simply indifferent.” by John Andrew Holmes.
We wish to thank you again for the gorgeous ideas you offered Jesse when preparing a post-graduate research plus, most importantly, with regard to providing all the ideas in one blog post. In case we had been aware of your web page a year ago, we would have been saved the unnecessary measures we were participating in. Thanks to you.
I do not write many responses, however i did a few searching and wound up here Things can only get better… surely?!? | Project Zomboid. And I do have a few questions for you if you do not mind. Could it be just me or does it appear like a few of these remarks appear like they are written by brain dead visitors?
And, if you are writing on other online sites, I would like to follow everything fresh you have to post. Could you list of all of all your communal sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
